LaVar Ball, a father to three Balls brought his act into the sneaker world in a recent interview with USA Today.
One billion dollars. 1,000,000,000. That’s how much the eldest Ball, who, despite averaging 2.2 points per game in his one season at Washington State 29 years ago, thinks he could beat Michael Jordan in a one-on-one game, wants for a combined shoe deal for his three sons, UCLA freshman Lonzo and high schoolers LiAngelo and LaMelo. Via USA Today During the interview, Ball also said he is prepared to package Lonzo and his two other sons — LiAngelo, a high school senior who has signed with UCLA, and LaMelo, a high school sophomore who has committed to UCLA — for a marketing deal with Nike, Adidas or Under Armour. “A billion dollars, it has to be there,” Ball said. “That’s our number, a billion, straight out of the gate. And you don’t even have to give it to me all up front. Give us $100 mil over 10 years.” OK, so there’s that. Also, check out what the Balls are whipping around. The Ball boys already are riding in style — at least the two that have driver’s licenses. Lonzo and LiAngelo each drive $100,000 BMWs, said Ball, who is a self-employed personal trainer and whose wife, Tina, is a middle school physical education teacher. If nothing else, this man is incredibly polarizing. I’ve heard arguments from every single spot on the spectrum. Some people just want to him shut his mouth; some people see nothing wrong with a supportive father. Some people think going on national TV to proclaim your son to be better than the two-time reigning MVP of the NBA is a little over the top.  |
